12/16/2023 0 Comments Rimworld mod manager local copies![]() ![]() Only drawback is the "remove local copies" option tends not to work, but I can just open that up manually and remove them myself So unsurprisingly, I'm quite happy that Fluffy's 'Mod Manager' has a "make local copies" option, so I can back my shit up, and if needs be also set Rimworld to a "beta" branch to prevent it updating, so I don't risk losing shit. ![]() Neither of these would be a problem, if your mods didn't auto-update themselves the second Steam connected to online services/the Workshop. Thankfully someone had it lying around and uploaded a version of it to use in the interim, and I think the original author may have eventually re-upped the original or let others work on it and update it further. Well, suddenly, trying to play that save would break it, 'cause there's now a bunch of missing references and whatnot. Until, I think the author removed/deleted it. Quite commonly used at the time, including by moi. The other I remember more details because it directly affected me, which was More Vanilla Turrets, I believe. Think people had "fixed"/'patched' versions up fairly quickly. ![]() u/nickierv makes much the same point I'd make, but I'll add a couple of examples of "auto-updating mods gone wrong" for /u/El_Orenz:įirst one that comes to mind was a malicious one, where a modder took offense to something (I forget what, can probably find it somewhere), and promptly "updated" their mods (yes, plural) to deliberately break them and replace the models with some other image (also forget what, some obnoxious, and supposedly "feminist" thing, it really wasn't though). Lots of clicks compared to just clicking workshop page and checking the FAQ, checking comments, and then subbing to the fix or unsub. Many times I'd have a mod issue but because the site downloaded the file as a string of numbers instead of the mod name and I'm a lazy bastard, I'd have to get into the about xmls to check what mod it was, look up the solution, check if there was an updated version in the comments or sites where I could download those mods, and then fix or deletion. Managing all your mods on a workshop less version pretty much forces you to keep your mod folder tidy and well organized. Probably a major factor in that decision. There was a site that downloaded the mod directly from the Workshop but it stopped working a while before I bought the game. With the workshop, usually I'll find someone in the comments linking an unofficial update for the mod. If a mod I wanted to download wasn't updated, forget it. r/RimWorldStreams - For all of your videos and streams needsĪs someone who probably played close to 600h on a pirated copy (up to 1000+ legit now), getting updated mods is such a pain in the ass. r/RimWorldTales - /u/srgrafo's Rimworld Comic Series r/RimworldSwap - Swap saves with other players r/ShitRimworldSays - /r/nocontext posts about /r/RimWorld r/RimworldArt - Posts about Rimworld Artwork (not fanart!) r/Rimreddit - Colonists playing only on a single planet r/RimWorldPorn - High Quality Images of Rimworld Colonies No discussing pirated versions of the game.
